I know the last post was pretty depressing. 2016 had seemed to slap both Conrad and I across the face. But we adjusted to what life threw at us and life is grand. How could it not be?! We are beyond blessed! My goal was to write once a month..and obviously that hasn't happened as much as I wanted. (Everyone is probably way excited about that too!) So I guess I can start off where I left off last. OUR CARIBBEAN CRUISE!
We left Salt Lake on a Saturday night redeye. It wasn't the best flight, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. I don't fly very often and I get super sick when I'm on flights. But I bought some sea sickness bands and I wore that on the flight too. (Highly recommend btw, went really well!) We arrived in Miami on Sunday morning and boarded the cruise! We were still adjusting to Conrad having diabetes so I felt like I was on edge the entire trip to Miami to make sure he was ok. For those of you who don't know: I am a MAJOR worry wart. I stress out about everything! The first thing we did when we got on board was find some nice relaxing chairs and relaxed. We also stuffed our faces too. So that was pretty cool.
We had an interior room and it was so perfect. We had the best floor and I barely felt sea sick. Monday we were at sea all day and we just relaxed and toured the boat. Once again, we stuffed our faces the entire time. The food was amazing and Conrad and I couldn't get over the 24/7 soft serve ice cream. I swear I had about 10 cones a day. Tuesday we were in Cozumel, Mexico and bought some great things. We learned really fast that you can talk down the price of things super fast. I won't go into detail, but we bought about 3x the things we thought we would. & we definitely DON'T regret it. We had such a good day exploring Cozumel and relaxing on the beach!
Wednesday we were in Belize! We had a port excursion this day to go tubing and zip-lining! We had a great tour on the way there. Our tour guide was amazing. The island was BEAUTIFUL but also made us realize how blessed we really are to live the lives that we do. We saw the hospital that they had and it did not look safe. It was pretty sad. We also learned that you have to apply to High School.. you don't have the privilege there to get an education. It was eye opening to say the least. When we got to our excursion place we went tubing first. We didn't bring our go pro because the guide told us we would be going through caves and it would be a waste. It was a waste to not bring the camera! It was so unbelievable beautiful there! So so so cool! It was a blast!
Thursday we had another excursion in Mahogany Bay. We had Snuba-ing on the list, a mix of scuba and snorkeling. We had heard from so many experts that this was the best place to snorkel and scuba if you were to do it. So I was extremely excited and proud of myself for doing all of the research I did before purchasing excursions. We woke up and the weather was horrible. It was rainy and gray outside. The ship had tried to dock about 4 times before they realized we wouldn't be able to do go to Mahogany Bay. We were devastated to say the least. But we quickly bought another excursion for the next day at Grand Cayman. & the best part is tat we bought Snorkeling with Stingrays and Turtles! TURTLES ARE MY FAVORITE!
Friday we woke up to the same problem that we had at Mahogany Bay. We were able to dock but our excursion was cancelled due to weather. But we still could explore the island. We did a LOT of shopping! Conrad got a really cool watch and we were able to really do some tourist things. It was really cool that our excursion got cancelled because we would have missed out on more than we thought! We got back on the boat and headed home
The night life on the boat was pretty great too. We went to as much as we possible could. We did the dinners, movies, and shows! I have never laughed so hard as I did this entire week! We had SO much fun! I loved visiting all of the islands. We learned about the culture and beliefs that these people have had for thousands of years. It was pretty touching to hear and see things that our religion believes. It is different to learn and read about things in the scriptures, but to actually see and be in the places that they were... is indescribable! We didn't really think our testimonies would grow, but it did! Conrad's Diabetes weren't as much of a problem as we thought. I was extremely relieved!
The worst part... Sunday morning, the day we get off the boat, I had a high fever and a really sore throat. The first thing I could think of is that I had the Zika virus. We headed off to do another excursion to the everglades. It was great! I am also extremely terrified of alligators/crocodiles. I don't know why, but I am pretty sure it is because some of the shows that my dad and brothers watched when I was little. I have nightmares about these creatures. So I was a "little" nervous, but it was great! Then we were off to the airport. Our flight wasn't until the next morning. But we brought movies and a thousand snacks so we wouldn't be bored. But I was miserable. My fever was getting worse and I was exhausted. Worst night ever. I literally slept the entire flight home and was still sick. But I am so glad I was sick after and not during the cruise!
IT WAS THE BEST!!
Adjusting back to normal life was not easy. All we could think was that we were going to become world travelers... once we get more money! We needed to pack all of our apartment up and move to Idaho Falls. With Conrad working, I packed the entire apartment by myself and made about 15 trips back and forth. It was stressful and awful all at once. But I got rid of a LOT of things. For as small as our apartment was, we packed a lot into it! But this new move has been a roller coaster to say the least. We have met some amazing people and made some great friends!
We celebrated our first anniversary together by FINALLY going up to Gold Bug Hot springs. It was the best trip. We had a lot of fun. I also realized I am way more out of shape than I thought, so it was kind of depressing. I went with my best friend, Payton to a Dustin Lynch concert and MET HIM! It was a big deal. I finally got the nerve to chop some of my hair off and I got a new look. I took off 3 inches, which doesn't sound like a lot but it is when you have thin hair and it never grows. I wasn't too fond of my coloring at first but I LOVE my haircut. Then I had my birthday! Conrad did an amazing job. He got me a new rain jacket, bought me a massage and took me to dinner and a movie. He also made a music video to Taylor Swifts, "22". Who else's husband would do something like that?!? Only the best husband in the ENTIRE world!! He was so fun. What a great birthday!
Then I had my best friend, Karli's, wedding in Salt Lake. We (payton, karli and I) got a hotel together and had the best weekend, for a lot of reasons! I got to help video some of the important parts of the day and made a cute little videography. I am definitely NOT professional, but I love being able to capture little videos! It was so great.
Now, May has also been pretty great. I have been finishing some ends and applying to some grad schools! I am excited to get my masters degree in Healthcare Administration! We get to go to California in June for my little sisters graduation and see all of my family! Conrad and I, but mostly Conrad, has really nailed this whole diabetes thing. It was so hard at first, but we have adjusted and I am just so so so blessed we found out when we did. The move to Idaho Falls, as little as it was, was pretty hectic. We have overcome and gotten rid of a lot of the negative and have a lot of positive to look forward to. Through everything this first year of marriage has held for Conrad and I, we have learned that each other always comes first. He is my best friend and vice versa. We can get through anything and everything. We have a lot planned this summer and I am sure we will have more adventures!
